Mr. Miller's World History Class
Course Overview:
-Welcome to what promises to be an exciting and successful 2018-19 school year. I am eagerly looking forward to a year of true learning, growth, and empowerment. One of the foremost goals of the world history class is for all students to have an understanding of significant global events that, in some way, had an impact on our present world and the events that are currently taking place in it. This world history class will serve to take students on a roller coaster ride of learning as they examine important people and events from past centuries. Throughout the world history course, students will be required to evaluate specific historical information, contribute to class discussions, analyze primary source documents, and work cooperatively as they gain insight on past world events.
Overview of course topics:
Over the duration of the school year, students will be analyzing a wide range of history’s most famous people and events. The units listed below describe the overarching topics that each section of study will consist of.
-Unit 1: The Renaissance and The Reformation in Europe
-Unit 2: The Age of Exploration
-Unit 3: Absolutism/The Rise of Monarchs
-Unit 4: The Enlightenment and Revolutions
-Unit 5: Industrialization and Imperialism
-Unit 6: Nationalism and the World at War
Student grading system/breakdown:
Each student is assessed on a daily basis using a variety of assessment tools and strategies. The following is a list of categories, assessment examples included in the category, and the percent that each category counts towards a student's final grade:
Quizzes/Tests-Reading Quizzes; chapter tests:
15%
Homework-Global Issues Assignment; reading comprehension activity sheets: 15%
Participation-Contributing to class discussions, on-task behavior, appropriate classroom conduct: 25%
Classwork-In class reading questions, guided notes sheets; independent/group work: 25%
Projects-Project Based Learning assignments, powerpoint presentations:
